Younger students shared at market place

From January, twenty students in their first year of Academy worked on their first own entrepreneurial projects. They spent six hours weekly at entrepreneurial leadership classes to gain basic knowledge of design thinking and applying it right away on their ideas.

Students showed their skills and hard work on Students’ Solutions Market Place last Tuesday (May 9) to potential users of their solutions – external and internal guests. The invitation to the event said:

Join us for final sharing of our younger students’ work in entrepreneurial leadership. They are looking forward to engage you and listen to your inputs. What are the students preparing for you?

  • 90-second pitches of their project
  • Try-outs of their solutions
  • For some solutions, you will have the opportunity to pre-order

Eighteen guests accepted to come and try the students’ products and services,  including curious teachers from STEM and Humanities department of LEAF Academy, intrapreneurs from LEAF Talented highschoolers support and Slovak Professionals Abroad, external guests passionate about entrepreneurship from 0100 Ventures, Bike&City, Butterfly Effect, Quick Kancle, Eagle and Child at CS Lewis Gymnasium and more friends that we can not tag in this article.

We welcomed the audience with five minutes explanation of what we actually did in entrepreneurial leadership classes to develop the student projects:

  • January was about exploring possible projects topics – each of us made a list of problems bothering us locally and globally. Via qualitative research, we found out which problems we want to focus on.
  • February, we introduced the problems and our first solution prototypes to  older Academy students and local entrepreneurs for feedback. Many projects changed the direction.
  • March and April we worked hard to test the solutions again and again, to learn how should the final product or service look like. Some of us moved further and served first real customers, some of us had to prototype more in order to find out the right solution or to kill the idea and join another classmates’ project. All options were ok, if all of us moved in their learning. That was the main point of these projects anyways.

After the introduction, each project had 90 seconds to introduce their project – to pitch. The aim was to tell what problem does the project solve, why, what is the solution and what can the guests experience at the project table later. ALL Year 1 students

After pitches of all projects, guests had the chance to test our  products and services on their own skin. The projects’ teams welcomed them at the tables across two rooms. How did it look like?

Mox shared their webdesign references. Ondro and Samo aught interest of two organisations, who consider to hire them for helping with their webpages.

DAZE showed 18 different T-shirts designs, asking the guests to chose the top pictures. The winners shall make it to the first batch or production.


In Close to Home,Virag, Klara and Daska presented the first host family in their affordable travel program for teenagers. You could also review their webpage and apply right away.


Rafi presented Medishare, a project that aim to collect and distribute medical supplies for people in need, starting with community of homeless in Bratislava.


FREEdge shared a step by step guide how to establish your own fridge for exchanging left-over food at a workplace or cafe. You could also saw an international network of this food-waste solution that girls are part of.


Belasý Kolibrík presented the charitable concert they organize for children with lack of opportunities. Karin, Adelka, Simi and Danko managed to sell first eleven tickets at this market place.


Rap Culture as an Instagram page with almost 10 000 followers, is the channel for fans of rap and companies who sell merchandising. You could learn about this interesting business model from Matus and Adrian.


Feedbacker is an online tool for giving each other constructive feedback in school. Teachers and students at LEAF Academy are the first to use it in real life and Miro enabled you to try it out at his table.

Travellica guided you through the mock App for lonely travelers. How to find an interesting person to learn from, e.g. on a train? Andrej made you to click through the solution to gather feedback.


Warming Clothes table made you to try the warming T-shirt. It is Ema’s wearable prototype with warming pads. You could leave your email address to be first in line for possible first T-shirts.


The whole event took just two hours, but we had five months working on projects behind us. After saying goodbye to last guests and cleaning the rooms, all of us fell to the chairs, tired from the whole term.  Luckily, 16:45, the sweet reward arrived – icecream served by our colleagues. We just enjoyed and did not speak much. It was the perfect way to end the finale class, both for students and teachers.
